On Wednesday of last week, I had an hour-long interview with Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks television network. It is the leading left wing news and interview show on the web.
It was the most extraordinary interview I have ever had.
Rather than just kill each other with partisan jabs, we explored the commonality of the views of the Trump-Cruz wing of the Republican Party and the Sanders wing of the Democrats on a host of issues including bank regulation, Fed Reserve policies, free trade, immigration, campaign finance, and use of force abroad.
We crafted broad areas of agreement. The interview really presaged the possibility that we could make common cause against the Bushes, the Romneys and the Clintons by articulating new approaches to the key issues facing the country.
As the founder of the doctrine of Triangulation, that tried to carve a path for bipartisan cooperation in the 90s, it really made me hope that there is such a path today.
Please watch the interview, even if you have to do it in multiple sittings. It gathers steam as it goes on and as we both learned to see the issues through the other’s eyes.
