Mrs. Clinton seems to have forgotten that she won the nomination by the skin of her teeth, losing more than a third of the states to Bernie Sanders. While Donald Trump tried, in his VP pick and his statements at the convention, to console conservatives who may have felt jilted by his nomination, Hillary has chosen the opposite tack and, instead,is enraging the Sanders voters as the convention opens.
First, she chose Virginia Senator Tim Kaine as her running mate as opposed to Sanders or Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren or Ohio’s Sherrod Brown, all certified Democratic Party lefties. Kaine, pro-life until recently, auditioned for the VP slot by lobbying the big banks — the sworn enemies of the Sanders flock. He sent them a letter three days ago reaffirming his opposition to increased bank regulation, opposing further consumer protections – a not so subtle plea for their help in pulling puppet Hillary’s strings.
As this wasn’t enough, Wikileaks released a torrent of e-mails from staff at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) planning and plotting to hurt the Sanders candidacy, while the Committee itself publicly feigned its required neutrality. Bernie sanders has long complained that the Democratic nomination process was rigged – and the emails prove that he is right.
So intense was the storm this leak generated that Chairman Debbie Wasserman Schultz was dropped from the list of Convention speakers for fear of the outrage her inclusion might generate.
The leaked e mails show DNC staffers spreading negatives about Bernie, even to the point of urging surrogates to question whether or not he is an atheist. The e mails suggest that being Jewish is OK but that atheism will offend fundamentalist voters in West Virginia and Kentucky.
Evidence of the DNC orchestrating fake anti-Trump emails was featured in the emails.
The e mails also show the DNC’s footprints in diverting funds from the soft-money Victory Fund to Hillary’s campaign, an illegal practice and one that will draw the especial ire of Sanders backers.
As with all of Hillary’s negatives, these are self-inflicted wounds. Her ruthlessness and her constant conceit that she can get away with anything has landed her back in the soup right as her convention opens, turning off the crucial Sanders voters on whom the election hinges.
