Hillary Lawyered-Up To Negotiate Release of Emails
To hear the usual Clinton spinners tell the story, Hillary simply handed over her 55,000 hand selected emails to the State Department last December as soon as they requested them for record-keeping purposes
But that’s not what happened. As always with the Clintons, there is more to the story. According to Michael Schmidt of The New York Times, Hillary’s lawyers, including at least one criminal lawyer, were negotiating with the State Department over what would be released f for several months:
“Beginning in August, senior State Department officials held negotiations with Mrs. Clinton’s lawyers and advisers to gain access to her personal email records. At one point, her advisers met face-to-face with department officials in Washington.”
And it was not just a routine request for documents to preserve the history of the State Department during the Clinton years – it was in direct response to subpoenas for Hillary’s emails from the Benghazi Committee. Michael Schmidt wrote: “it was the review of the Benghazi-related documents last summer that, within the State Department, set off a chain of events leading to the public disclosure last week of Mrs. Clinton’s use of a private email account, according to the former and current department officials.”
Obviously, there was some resistance from Hillary. Otherwise, there would be no need for negotiations, right?
Who were the lawyers? We know that David Kendall was one of them. Remember him? He’s a prominent D.C. criminal lawyer who represented Hillary on Whitewater and other scandals and was also one of the President’s impeachment lawyers.
After Benghazi Committee Chairman Tray Gaudy said that the Hillary Clinton used “multiple” private email accounts while she was Secretary of State, Kendall sent a statement contradicting Gaudy. He claimied that Hillary used only one email account while she was Secretary and changed to another only after she resigned.
But the Committee stood by Gaudy’s claim, repeating that the Committee has “records with two separate and distinct email addresses used by former Secretary Clinton and dated during the time she was Secretary of State.”
So who is telling the truth? The safe bet would be Gaudy.
Maybe Mrs. Clinton didn’t tell her lawyer about the other account. She’s sounding more and more like Nixon.
Who were the other lawyers? We don’tknow yet. Most likely Clinton gate keeper Cheryl Mills was involved. She was Hillary’s Chief of Staff and would have a major conflict of interest since she did not enforce the Administration policy regarding preservation of records and obviously sent and received emails from Hillary. But that wouldn’t stop her or Hillary from involving her. She knows everything about what was going on with Hillary.
One more problem with Cheryl: She fired an Ambassador to Kenya for using a private email account for official business. But that was different, of course. Totally.
So wait and see what comes in the next act. Because there will surely be one.
